Portable Appliance Testing

Portable Appliance Testing - what and why?

It is the term used to describe the testing of electrical equipment.

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury, is maintained in a safe condition.

The frequency of visual inspection and testing is dependent upon the type of environment of your business.  As an example, a hand tool used and moved frequently within a workshop environment will require testing more frequently than a TV within a hotel room.

What is included in the portable appliance testing from The One Stop Shop?

During the test process of portable appliances, an item is visually inspected then tested accordingly, a test label is applied containing a unique reference number that then corresponds to the written portable appliance test report.

This method of working assists with traceability of equipment and can also assist with asset management in the longer term.
